Studio Monitors Setup
Connect
the Studio Monitors to the External Sound Card using two TRS to XLR
cables. These cables are different to regular guitar TS cables as
the Jack that connects to the sound card has an additional ring (TRS = Tip, Ring, Sleeve). Although it is possible to
use unbalanced cables it is not recommended. Using
unbalanced cables may sometimes result in a persistent humming sound
which will interfere with your recordings.
Guitar Setup
The guitar should be
connected to the soundcard interface through a TS cable. No
amplification is necessary as long as your soundcard has a line-level
instrument input, however if you do wish to use an amplifier
and send the signal from the amplifier to the soundcard it is
recommended that you use one of the other inputs. The "instrument"
input as it is labeled on many different sound cards is intended for
use
with line-level instruments.
Midi Drum Machine
Setup
If you would like to
record midi data from your midi device and send midi data from your
computer
to your midi device, you will require two midi cables which should be
connected to your SoundCard as indicated in the illustration
below.
Including Drums in
the Mix
The midi cables setup
provides a means of sending data to a drum machine from a software
program and also a means of receiving midi data from the drum machine
so that this data can be edited on a computer. In order to hear the
sounds that the midi data is used to trigger on the drum machine,
connect the drum machines left and right outputs to channel 1 and 2 on
your soundcard. These signals can now be included in the main mix, and
subsequently both midi and audio and be edited on a computer.
